Dual Credit Courses Save You Money and Time

Dual Credit Courses Save You Money & Time

Da Vinci offers Dual Credit courses for all eleventh and twelfth graders. The students will be scheduled to take online courses and receive both high school and college credit. Many of these courses are required by different undergraduate degree plans in order to receive a Baccalaureate.  Now our Da Vinci students will be able to take these courses and earn these credits while in high school.  These credits are transferrable to colleges across the country.

This  program allows students to experience the rigor of college coursework while  still having the support and encouragement from their high school teachers who  know them and will give them the attention and time to help them succeed.  Furthermore, the courses are free. Thus, parents save hundreds, if not thousands, of dollars in college tuition by encouraging their youngsters to take these courses now.

In order to be eligible to take these courses, students had to perform at a certain level on the STAAR; otherwise they must take an exam.  Since we are offering credits through the University of Texas at Permian Basin, our students in grades 11 and  12 took the COMPASS exam. The online courses begin on August 26th. During the summer weeks, we have offered tutoring for this test. We will continue to offer tutoring opportunities during the fall semester for students who did not pass the test or were not available to take the test. Hopefully they will be able to begin their college courses in the Spring.

Last year all the students who took online Sociology and Speech Communications passed with grades of A or B. We hope to continue this high level of performance. In addition our students were offered Education 1300, an El Paso Community College Course, taught right on our campus by Mr. Jacquez.  Please encourage your students to attend the tutoring and enroll in dual credit courses.
